This week on Dread Air we celebrate the reggae discomix, aka the extended mix or 12" single!
Although the preferred format in reggae has always been the 7"/45, in the late 70s the 12" was born, with mighty producer Joe Gibbs being one of its foremost proponents. The vocal track would be followed by the DJ cut or dub instrumental. We’ll hear tunes from singers Dennis Brown, Leo Graham, Cornell Campbell, and Barrington Levy, as well as groups the Wailing Souls, followed by DJs Big Youth, I-Roy, Trinity, Kojak & Liza as well as a great album cut by the late singer Michael Prophet!
