Show Notes

Dread Air continues a tribute to the great Glenmore Brown who sadly passed away Friday, October 4 at the age of 75. The “Rhythm Master” created some of the heaviest reggae tunes and “riddims.”

We start where we left off last week with Welton Irie’s DJ cut of Sylford Walker’s “Deuteronomy” and show off two more of their late 70s tunes, but we’re also focusing on Glen Brown’s production of vocal cuts including Johnny Clarke’s Smokey Robinson and the Miracles cover and Brown himself doing an Aaron Neville rendition.

Also, tenor titan Tommy McCook’s does his cut of a Jackie Moore soul tune and the immortal “Youthman” by Wayne Jarrett is featured. But let’s not forget the DJs: Prince Jazzbo doing his best John Lee Hooker impression, the two most famous “Roys”—I-Roy and U-Roy—at the top of their respective games, as is Big Youth, and others. Deep dub cuts and mixes by once again, King Tubby, and we close with the powerful “Boat to Progress.” Rest in Peace and Rest in Power Glenmore Brown, 1944-2019.
